A repentant sinner
But the tax collector stood at a distance and dared not even lift his eyes to heaven as he prayed. Instead, he beat his chest in sorrow, saying, 'O God, be merciful to me, for I am a sinner.' I tell you, this sinner, not the Pharisee, returned home justified before God. For those whol exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves wil lbe exalted. Luke 18:13-14
The tax collector showed his genuine repentant attitude in front of Jesus. Our dearest Jesus understands our situations and difficulties ... He sees through our genuine hearts ... I never try to evade my responsibility i.e. try to carry the consequences of our faults, pursue a holy living and keep me from doing something evil. BUT Jesus sees our broken spirit as very precious. I truly believe at times when I think there is no further turning back in hopelessness, Jesus is STILL here. He would hear our prayers and like to offer His merciful hands to everyone in need.
The offerings of God are a broken spirit; a broken and sorrowing heart, O God, you will not put from you. Psalms 51:17
